PHISICC

Close up of a healthcare worker holding a pen writing on a paper medical record

Overview

PHISICC aims to design an enhanced paper-based health information system and study its impact on data quality, work satisfaction and health outcomes.

PHISICC used a multi-disciplinary approach that combines design thinking with rigorous quantitative and qualitative research to test if redesigned paper-based tools and processes impact decision making and health outcomes.

Ethnographic research focused in identifying the challenges of health information systems and how health workers use them. Design-led research was then used to put the responsibilities and needs of health workers at centre of the redesign process, in order to design a new system that is more efficient, accurate and responsive to health care needs but also more satisfactory and less burdensome for health care workers to use.
